About Us

Our Story

We are a small family business focused on helping other small businesses start up and thrive.

Working at a large international law firm didn’t fit with Sterling’s goals – he wanted the flexibility to dedicate himself to the clients and causes he cared about, while pursuing his interest in technology to help make legal services more modern and efficient. That’s what drove him to leave security behind and take the plunge on his own small business – the firm that has become Lawrence Law.

At Lawrence Law, we believe every client deserves to be treated with respect. We know that your time is as important as ours. That’s why we accommodate your schedule for meetings, we have fixed rates for many of our services, and we take the time to get to know you and your issues one-on-one.

Tax Focused

We speak the language of your accountants - tax. We have experience working on all types of small business acquisitions and reorganizations through a tax lens. We keep up with the latest developments to ensure you have the best advice possible.

Technology Powered

We embrace technology in every aspect of our practice. From video conferenced meetings, digital signatures for transactions, document automation to reduce costs, and a client portal to view documents and invoices.

Predictable Pricing

We offer flat rates for many of our services. When a flat rate isn't available, we have one hourly rate, and we will try our best to provide an estimate of the eventual cost.

Convenient Meetings

Flexible video appointment times, including evenings. Most initial consultations are free.

Sterling Lawrence

Sterling is a born-and-raised Edmontonian who embraces the entrepreneurial spirit of the city. He grew up working at a family business and surrounded by small business owners and it inspired a hunger to help those businesses accelerate into success.

Throughout law school, Sterling worked both for his family’s business and in his own small IT contracting business. Following law school, Sterling worked in the tax group at a large international law firm, exposing him to quality mentorship but also a view of how inefficient the legal business can be. Shortly thereafter, Sterling founded Lawrence Law.

Sterling is a passionate fan of sports, both traditional and esports, and can often be found delving deep into stats. Sterling is also a proud supporter of the local arts scene, and currently serves as the President of the Board of Northern Light Theatre in addition to his other work with non profits.

If you are a local non profit, Sterling may be able to provide you with pro bono legal advice.

Nina Lawrence

Although she is a trained lawyer, Nina is not actively practicing law.

Born in Eastern Canada, Nina moved to Calgary at a young age and later settled in Edmonton with her husband, Sterling. During law school and her articles, Nina worked for a major oil and gas company in Calgary, a mediation centre in Windsor, and a small and mid-sized law firm in Edmonton. Her work ranged from family and criminal law to large construction contracts and mediation for low-income individuals. Nina has a strong interest in dispute resolution processes and is a trained mediator.

In her spare time Nina enjoys reading, taking road trips through Canada and USA, and learning to play new musical instruments.

In an effort to receive her Qualified Mediator designation, Nina conducts free mediations to interested parties, subject to a few restrictions.
